ROCK HOLE CREEK ENVIRONMENTAL INVESTIGATION: DAWSON CENTRAL MINE, CENTRAL QUEENSLAND
Terrestria were engaged by Engeny Water Management to assess the ecological impacts of long-term saline mine water leakage into Rock Holes Creek in Central Queensland, The project involved an in-depth review into the effects of salinization on soils and the rhizosphere and recommended remediation actions to the satisfaction of the Department of Environmental and Heritage under the Mine’s Environmental Authority.
Oresome Mine Haul road flora and fauna survey and Palm Cockatoo habitat Modelling and Assessment
Terrestria were commissioned by Epic Environmental to carry out a fauna trapping program and vegetation community mapping assessment of the Oresome Mine Haul road on Urquart Point, Weipa to provide a baseline for impact assessment. The project included the development and implementation of a method to assess the impacts of vegetation clearing on Palm Cockatoo habitat on the UBx site to assist with calculating offset liabilities under the EPBC Act.
DEVELOPMENT OF TARGET VEGETATION COMMUNITIES FOR REHABILITATION OF the final voids at OAKY CREEK COAL MINE, CENTRAL QLD
Terrestria Pty Ltd was commissioned by Austecology Pty Ltd to define the potential target vegetation community type for the final voids of Oaky Creek Coal Mine, Bowen Basin, Central Queensland. The ‘novel’ landscapes left after mining have a unique set of physical, chemical and biological characteristics. Developing stable ecosystems that provide the maximum amount of ecosystem services required an in-depth review of pit lake chemistry and its evolution over time combined with an in-depth knowledge of the growth requirements and characteristics of the local flora.
