Dr Andrew Daniel
Andrew is a Principal Ecologist with over 20 years’ experience in ecological research and management with environmental consultancies and with State and government agencies. Trained as a botanist by the Queensland Herbarium, Andrew has undertaken numerous botanical assessments, mapping and monitoring projects for the Wildlife Ecology Section. He has over 15 years of consultancy experience specialising in vegetation mapping, ecological impact assessment, flora and fauna management and rehabilitation.
Andrew has successfully managed and completed a broad range of projects including assessment within the mining, extractive, industrial and residential sectors. He has extensive experience in remote regions of Australia including baseline ecological assessments for mines in the Northwest Highlands, Gulf Plains, Einasleigh Uplands, Mulga Lands, and Northern and Southern Brigalow Belts of Queensland. His qualifications are a Bachelor of Science (Biological Sciences) and a PhD (Environmental Engineering).
KATHY STEPHENS
Kathy Stephens is a Principal Botanist with over 20 years’ experience in plant identification at the Queensland Herbarium. She has completed a number of consultancies on a wide range of ecological issues, including high resolution mapping of several sand mine leases and wetlands at 1:25,000 scale. She has also completed terrestrial surveys and mapping including rare and threatened species surveys, and established baseline permanent monitoring sites.
Kathy has undertaken mapping and condition assessment of riparian vegetation of the Burnett River. She has written two books: “Wetland Plants of Queensland: a field guide” and “Flora of North Stradbroke Island”. She has completed survey and mapping of the coastal wetlands of SEQ, which is a basis for the Coastal Management Plan of SEQ. She has been involved in survey and mapping projects for many years, has extensive field experience and has published numerous scientific publications, ecological project reports and map products. Kathy has been involved in the identification of aquatic plants for the state of Queensland and has appeared as an expert witness in this field. Her qualifications are a Bachelor of Science (Botany).
DONOVAN SHARP
Donovan Sharp is a plant ecologist with 15 years’ experience in botany. His background includes work as a Queensland Government botanist. He has also contracted to environmental consultancies and engineering firms as an ecologist. Donovan has developed botanical keys and is a co-author of both the AusGrass, computer key to the grasses of Australia, and the Flora of Stradbroke Island.
He has extensive knowledge of the Surat and Bowen basins and has also done a significant amount of survey in SEQ. Donovan is currently working extensively in the gas and coal sectors of Queensland. His qualifications are a Bachelor of Applied Sciences and a Master of Science (Botany).

Derek Johnson Derek has 20 years’ experience working as a botanist for Queensland Government and as an independent consultant. He has extensive knowledge of the vegetation communities of South Eastern Queensland, the Brigalow Belt and the Gulf Plains bioregions. He has completed numerous large-scale vegetation surveys and written many flora chapters for Environmental Impact Statements.
Terry Reis Terry is a principal fauna ecologist with over 20 years’ experience in ecological research and management for environmental consultancies and with State and local government agencies. Terry’s experience includes work throughout Queensland and Australia and overseas in Papua New Guinea, Torres Strait and Borneo. Terry has successfully managed and completed a broad range of projects within the mining, extractive, industrial and residential sectors.
